The Flux Pavilion we all know and love is famous for his hard bass, melodic dubstep, and his role as one of the minds behind the Circus Records label. His Blow The Roof EP continued his tradition of bringing crunchy dub to the masses, complete with heavy drops, a collaboration with Childish Gambino, and tracks possessing massive staying power. For Exostomp (Jump Up High) though, Flux takes a step away from his familiar style and moves into some previously uncharted territory.
It begins with a familiar enough build, as all the classic elements of Flux Pavilion’s music are more than evident (melodic builds, catchy vocals, and just a hint of electro). But then along comes the drop, shocking us with far less bass and far more of what almost sounds like a slowed-down hardstyle kick.
When it comes to an artist with a gigantic following like Flux’s, people begin to expect a certain product, which will more often than not lead to stagnation in style. This is why we’ll always respect an artist of repute willing to try something new. Try Exostomp on for size below and see what you think: Should Flux Pavilion return to what’s made him successful, and or continue to evolve?
