Venture to the Lowest Point in North America (Death Valley National Park, Eastern California)
Badwater Basin: The Lowest Point In North America (Photo: Tripadvisor)
In this below-sea-level basin located two hours directly west of Las Vegas, steady droughts and record heat make Death Valley a land of extremes. While dry deserts are common here, salt flats, towering snow-covered mountains, canyons, and massive sand dunes help form a diverse physical landscape. The park also is home to the Badwater Basin. Located 282 feet below sea level, it is the lowest point in continental North America. A MUCH different environment to anything here in the Pacific Northwest, Death Valley is full of surprises for those willing to throw on some sunscreen and take a stroll through “hell”.
