It’s always great to hear what an artist has in mind for a branched-out remix of one of their original tracks. Felix Cartal’s New Scene was one his most beautifully mellow creations of all time; something that was albeit unexpected on his latest Past Present Felix EP, but surprisingly refreshing and non-conforming to boxed-in expectations for a top electronic dance producer. But what lacked in the club-banger category for the original New Scene, ironically enough, was only leaving room for something more.. And after a handful of talented artists, including CRNKN, took a swing at remixing this beauty, it ultimately ended up being Felix Cartel himself, teaming up with electro-house phenom Lucky Date, to take this track into an entirely New Scene, one we thought it would never see…
What previously opens as soft claps and snaps introducing the laid-back tempo of the original, now comes as a fierce marching soldier-style snare picking up the song’s pace. Immediately, you know that Felix Cartal and Lucky Date mean business. The build breaks, of course, because Ofelia’s goddess-like vocal performance needs no accompaniment; but ultimately builds back up with four-on-the-floor snare hits and energetic, big-room synth keys fading in. This is the sound of the track building up into euphoric peak potential. And once it gets there, explosive sound erupts. We can hear both Felix Cartal’s signature track-shaping of monumental builds and emotional breaks, as well as Lucky Date’s natural knack for epic chorus sounds and his overall party-anthem remix genius loud and clear.
