Stay Safe Seattle:

This isn’t your mom’s plan of “staying safe..”  Their mission begins with the observation that despite all our efforts as a society to stop the use of illicit drugs, people are using them anyway, and it seems unlikely this situation is going to change soon. This necessitates a practical response to reduce the harm that is taking place right now. And this response is called, appropriately enough, harm reduction.

These incredible guys and gals are here to tell it like it is, and to help everyone stay safe and sound during events that sometimes involve party-goers using drugs.    Their goal is to increase the ability of our peers to positively influence their own health and safety, by providing the tools and information needed to make informed decisions.  Even if you are drug-free and don’t want to condone those who partake, this group deserve immense support for providing young adults with an unbiased outlet of helpful, often life-saving information.

stay safe

What they do: They provide a mobile-testing rig outside the event! They also provide information, and drug-testing of your substances so you KNOW before you ingest exactly what you are ingesting.  Even if you are “pretty sure” you know what you are taking, they help you to know 100%.  That way, you can stay safe and in control of your experience. They are always available for answering questions, and you can feel comfortable knowing they keep everything private.  So, ask away!

What they don’t do: Report you, call your parents, judge you.  If fact, they will be super proud (and so will we) that you are taking your health and responsible partying into your own hands. They also DO NOT require you to provide your name or any personal information.

From their Facebook: “Looking for pill testing at Freaknight? Keep an eye out for our volunteers before you enter the event! They will be outside with a mobile testing rig. If you have any questions or comments please message us.  Test it before you ingest it!”

Now On To Showtime… Artists You Shouldn’t Miss

Here’s three of our top must-see artists for this year’s lineup.  We’ve added a brief bio, some top tracks, and why we think you should add them to your personal schedule.

UMEK

Twisted Big Top Stage – 8:30pm

His first-ever Seattle performance will be at the best event of the year.. and what better way to welcome UMEK than by losing your mind during his main stage performance! Don’t let his first-time appearance fool you; UMEK has been in the scene for nearly 2 decades, with a worldly following and a long list of notables to match.   Slovenian-based, UMEK has traveled the world and then some – and his highly unique sound that draws from underground trance, groovy house, and dark, rich tones.  This is going to be one of those stand-out sets that you don’t often hear in our club scene, let alone our region – not to mention a lighter, chill house vibe to get you warmed up for the evening, without exerting all of your precious raging energy.  With so many artists aiming to please, this is one artist you can count on to stand out in a big way.  Catch UMEK’s set at 8:30pm at the Twisted Big Top main stage, and give him a warm, Northwest welcome!

KOAN Sound

Bass Asylum Stage – 12:30am

KOAN Sound is the outpouring of creative energies that our souls feed upon – with an imaginative, experimental sound unlike any other on the lineup.  His eclectic productions span the realms; from glitchy, energetic drum&bass with an eastern-world touch, to completely ethereal and naturalizing, tranquil tones, for that “perfect, peaceful” moment.  Expect his set to travel full-spectrum, with an uncharted adventure awaiting you.  KOAN Sound plays Friday at 12:30am on the Bass Asylum Stage.

New World Punx

Twisted Big Top Stage – 2:30am

If you are unfamiliar, it’s time you get in-the-know.  This duo made up of Ferry Corsten and Markus Schulz is going to be one hot set not to be missed.  The two are insanely talented on their own, and together?  Well, we will let you do the math.  Like Pendulum, the vibrant originality of the New World Punx talents can only be accurately described once experienced.. and again like Pendulum, once the group breaks apart, it is unlikely they will be put back together again.  Be sure to catch their sure-to-be unforgettable set together as they rock our spooky socks into the last hour of Friday’s festivities. Catch the duo main stage; Twisted Big Top at 2:30am.

In closing, we would like to wish all of you a fun, safe, and incredible Freaknight Festival experience.  We want this and other events to continue for years to come, and it is in our own hands to keep it going.  The electronic dance music scene in the Northwest is a closely-knit, loving community, and we want the world to see that.  Love and respect one another, look out for friends and strangers alike, and do at least one good deed if the opportunity presents itself.  You never know what a small effort can do for someone else.  With that being said, it’s probably time to get your costume on…  See you all at Freaknight!
