[divider]WHY KICKSTARTER?[/divider]
Many films have utilized Kickstarter as a way to fund creative projects, and a documentary on a place that feels more like a communal sacred ground than a concert venue sounds like a perfect reason to start a campaign. There’s plenty of reasons to do so, but that doesn’t always lead to quality funding or finished product. Enormous: The Gorge Story isn’t just a film trying to get funding, though. Utilizing Kickstarter has numerous other unique benefits, and the guys plan to take full advantage of them.
Building a distribution base and creative freedom are also critical. With fans of the Gorge (and fans of music in general) as our backers, we have the ability to tell the real story, and not be tied down by outside interests. – Nic Davis
[pullquote]Kickstarter gives the fans an opportunity to contribute and be a part of creating an important piece of Gorge history…There are a million things that go into creating a movie, and a successful Kickstarter campaign will make all of them a heck of a lot easier! – Tim Williams[/pullquote]
The studio feels that Kickstarter is the right platform to fund a project like Enormous, and quality funding is something that every quality project needs. Especially when that project includes attendance and filming at several festivals and concerts in a location like Quincy, Wash. The guys are also scheduling interviews with major musicians who’ve performed at The Gorge in the past, psychologists who will try to explain the effect the venue has on people, and geologists to hlep explain the Coumbia River Gorge’s physical evolution. This is where the community comes in, Williams said.

Before his first visit to The Gorge, Davis hadn’t seen any pictures of the area and was going in blind. Needless to say, he was impressed. The initial skepticism poking in the back of his, and many Gorge-visitor’s minds, during the drive to the venue was swiftly brushed aside as soon as he crested the hill. And he was hooked. But, the guys have been surprised and impressed with more than just the scenic Northwest landscapes. Citing the community, and its ability to bring people from thousands of miles away to share experiences year after year, Davis sees The Gorge as more than just a cool outdoor music venue.
There are some other venues that have breathtaking landscapes, but few that have created such lasting connections and communities over the years. My ultimate goal with the film is to capture that through a number of really unique storylines we’re developing. – Davis
No other venue has created such a close community of people who all share love for the same place so much, Williams said. Surprised by the strong family mentality that surrounds The Gorge, Williams describes the venue as a catalyst for deep friendships, a magnet for attracting spouses to each other, and a melting pot for fans of every type of music. Now, if that isn’t a music fan’s dream venue, we don’t know what is.
