Ellie Goulding is a familiar name in the EDM and pop community due to her incredible success both in the UK and worldwide with tracks such as Burn, Lights, and Anything Can Happen. Ellie has been making incredible waves on both EDM and mainstream channels by consistently hitting the Billboard Top 10 with her singles and winning awards on both sides of the pond.
Ellie first started her musical journey at the age of 9 with the clarinet and was bitten by the EDM bug at the University of Kent in England. She was discovered at a talent contest at her university, shortly thereafter she left school to set up a home in West London. After signing to Polydor records in 2009 she started work on her debut single Under the Sheets. Ellie’s career took off shortly after with her winning both the Critic’s Choice Award at the 2010 BRIT Awards and the BBC Sound of 2010 poll.
Despite having just come on to the scene in 2010 Ellie has amassed incredible success that would lead to a very long, boring article were we to rattle off every single achievement. One of our favorite highlights is her performance of her cover of Your Song by Elton John at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. She has collaborated with Skrillex on his track Summit on the 2011 EP Bangarang and provided her incredible vocals to Calvin Harris’ 2012 track Need Your Love. She achieved her first UK Number One with Burn in 2013. Ellie Goulding contributed her song Mirror to the soundtrack for Catching Fire. We are excited to have her gracing us with her presence in April of 2014 with a sold-out concert at the gorgeous Paramount in Seattle.
Achievements aside, Ellie’s musical style and presence are something to be in awe of. She utilizes her soprano voice and mastery of melodies to create songs that convey an essence of pure, unadulterated wonder. In a world of hard heavy bass tracks her clear and pure vocals are a delightful breath of fresh air. She draws inspiration from many artists outside the EDM world including Bjork, Lauren Hill, Katy Perry and Owl City.
In her non-musical life Ellie Goulding is an avid runner with a half-marathon under her belt. She got support early in her career from Nike for the album Run Into the Light to get more runners motivated to lace up and hit the road. Her charity work has included the British Heart Foundation, She Runs LA and Free the Children. She performed at Gucci’s “Chime for Change” campaign concert to raise awareness of women’s issues in education, health and justice.
With such an excellent career already in progress we can’t wait to see what Ellie brings our way next. Between her tour going on this year, her new single Goodness Gracious and a recent (February 19, 2014) Brit Award for Best British Female Solo Artist we think this woman will have a lot to show us this year.
