It’s official: Madison House and Insomniac’s 10th anniversary edition of Electric Forest has been effectively cancelled, and organizers have announced options for festivalgoers who did purchase tickets for this year’s event in the future.

“Electric Forest (EF) announced today that based on input from state and local authorities regarding public gatherings amid the COVID-19 pandemic it has cancelled its 2020 event,” a statement read. “The beloved music and camping festival, which sold out within one hour of its public on sale last December, was scheduled to celebrate its 10th anniversary June 25-28, 2020 in Rothbury, Michigan. EF HQ posted official news of cancellation on its website this morning. Ticket holders will be offered the option to receive a refund or to retain their tickets, which will be honored at the 2021 Decade One celebration.”

As another festival is taken as a casualty of COVID-19, the fates of other upcoming fests set for this summer like Beyond Wonderland at the Gorge, Bass Canyon, and Shambhala do seem to hang in the balance as there is no clear path for how long it will take the United States to reopen fully in order to ensure the safety of all involved across the country.
This announcement comes as cancellations continue to creep further and further into that summer festival season. With Electric Forest clearly not happening, the possibility of progression for cancelled events appears to be pushed out all the way to July.
This year’s lineup was set to include BASSNECTAR, Flume, Major Lazer, Gryffin, The String Cheese Incident, Lindsay Stirling, Big Gigantic, Lotus, The Glitch Mob, Louis The Child, Diplo, Subtronics, and many more.
To make it inexplicably clear based on the release above, a full refund (including fees) is one of the options if you have purchased tickets for 2020, or attendees of this year’s event can put their tickets toward the 2021 event, camping purchases included.
This decision isn’t really surprising to all foresters who had been following the local news cycle in Rothbury, due to the town’s city council voting down the proposal to move the festival to September 2021 earlier this month. Ticketholders will have until May 21st (or essentially 30 days) to decide whether they would like to receive a refund or place it towards their admission for 2021. It’s important to note that the organizers of this event, really emphasized focusing on what is to come, rather than letting this setback follow with a wave of disappointment as we all try to recover from the events of 2020 together.
