After a long hiatus, groundbreaking instrumentalist and producer Ekali returned to the stage on March 22 for a special show at Seattle’s Q Nightclub.
This show marks the first of several on his Alinea Tour, celebrating the massive debut release from his new record label, Awakening Records. Ekali also used this event to show us the beginning of a new chapter in his already impressive musical career and to give us an exclusive first look at what to expect from him in the future along with the Awakening Compilation release coming out on March 29th.
Hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, Ekali has been sharing his unique flavor of dance music for nearly a decade. His most popular releases, like his timeless remix of Flux Pavillion’s I Can’t Stop and his massively popular collaboration with Zhu, Blame, have received tens of millions of streams and have since become classics in the EDM community. He has performed at countless festivals across the globe, including performances at Paradiso and Beyond Wonderland at the Gorge, as well as past shows at Q Nightclub.
Ekali has now taken a new step in his musical journey with the inception of his new record label, Awakening Records. The label is named after Ekali’s famous Awakening mix series, which is still ongoing today and is currently on its 13th edition. For the first release on Awakening Records, Ekali has put together a lengthy compilation of songs from artists including, Cure97, NXSTY, DJ RIDE, and Dabow. Awakening Compilation 01 has been arranged into two separate sections; the first being made up of more bass-forward dance music songs, and the second being a collection of more experimental and mood-based tracks.
Awakening Records members SSOS and BLVDERUNNER joined Ekali for this spectacular show to represent the Awakening Records brand. Using Q Nightclub’s impressive Funktion One sound system both of them played inspiring sets composed of multiple genres from trap and deep dub to house and experimental bass, all while showcasing their own songs alongside fellow Awakening members and more. Ekali played us a set of new and old music, showing his spectrum of styles and the evolution of the Ekali project.
