From Margaret Sanger and Emma Goldman leading the charge for women’s voting rights, to Al Capone taking ownership during the days of prohibition, it’s a building that’s seen its fair share of any and everything. Fast forward to the early 90s, and we have Bill Clinton kicking off his 1996 campaign in the very room occupied by ravers today. Past that, the list of artists, benefits, DJs, and musical legends that have occupied the Grand Ballroom is endless.
Gerard took us through each of the many rooms Webster Hall has to offer, each providing something uniquely exciting to its patrons. We ventured into the Top 40/Mashup-themed Marlin Room, and then around to the quieter sports bar area, as it became clear that this was that rare club quite literally providing something for everyone. Our own burgeoning Seattle scene may be a ways off from accomplishing all this in a single place, but the formula is simple enough.
You just gotta be in it. There’s no magic to it. Make the calls, pay the money, take the risks, market it, brand it.
We even caught a quick peek at of the Grand Ballroom before it opened to clubgoers for the night. Minutes later, the lights came down and the room came alive.
Before…
…and after.
