The Etymotic – ER-20XS: High Fidelity plugs are rated with a NRR of 13, while aiming to generally reduce decibels by 20 among each frequency. While there is generally some deviation from their response curve, we found that across the board they offered solid protection. The Universal Fit pair comes with 2 different sized silicone tips, as well as a foam tip to help find the perfect fit for your ears. The filters are more compact than their previous ER20 models, making them a little more discrete. We also appreciated that they came with a compact carrying pouch and lanyard making them easy to store when we walked away from the stage.
The only con we could honestly say would be at times the tips felt like they fit a little too deep into the ear canal. We sometimes felt as if the filter portion would make contact with our ear, but swapping to the larger silicone tips helped remedy this. Not all experienced this however as others had pleasant fits with no irritation. Overall they are a great option for anyone looking to pick up an affordable pair of acoustic filters.
