It’s that time of year again. No, we’re not talking summer time, or peak festival season. We’re talking about the DJ Mag Top 100, as voting for 2017’s best of the best opened earlier this month. In what has become the world’s biggest music poll, electronic dance music artists are, once again, taking to social media to either spam for votes and give appreciation, or trash the contest in its entirety. Among the critics: a couple of CVNT5.
Comprised of trance music superstars Gareth Emery and Ashley Wallbridge, these over-the-top, flamboyant CVNT5 “exposed” DJ Mag last Fall, taking to YouTube to document how “corrupt” the Top 100 contest really is. With voting for 2017 underway, the always outspoken Emery took to social media to remind us, once again, how “fixed” the polling is- adding, “where are CVNT5 when you need them?”. Haven’t seen CVNT5 investigation into DJ Mag yet, or just want to watch it again for a good laugh? Take a look below! Making the video even better: a soundtrack provided by Seattle’s own BL3R!
Who knows if the process behind the Top 100 is really THAT corrupt, but either way, deciding who your personal top five EDM artists are is fun to think about. This year, your vote will help DJ Mag assist human rights organization UNICEF in protecting children from danger- a positive twist to the controversial contest.
You can catch these CVNT5 here in the northwest later this year. Ashley Wallbridge is set to join forces with Project 46 and Emma Hewitt at Seattle’s Aston Manor, the original August 17th show having to be rescheduled (date yet to be announced). Gareth Emery, coming off his Paradiso main stage performance last month, will be bringing his Saving Light Tour to Portland, in October, and Seattle in November.
