Mad Decent boss Diplo has released another EP of remixes. The latest bundle of tracks are remixes of the title track from Diplo’s most recent EP, Revolution. Of the four remixes released off of the growing label, Paper Diamond’s steals the show. Paper Diamond, also known as Alex B, drops the remix just as he begins the ‘Cold Crush Tour’. Featured supporting artists include recent Northwest visitors Loudpvck (FreakNight) and Branchez (Altered States Tour). Unfortunately, this tour comes nowhere near the Northwest. Paper Diamond last visited the Northwest with Branchez as support for Zeds Dead on their ‘Altered States Tour’ last fall.
Paper Diamond’s take on Revolution shows the American producer’s ability to naturally inject his unique sound and style into other’s tracks. Remixing a good song and making another good song is one thing. Creating a different and unique remix of a hit track that maintains the sound of the original is something entirely different. Paper Diamond has successfully achieved the latter. The vocals from Kai are delicately spread over the track. They lift it and help build momentum that is maintained throughout. But, the emphasis and focus is most definitely on the unique sounds Paper Diamond brings to the table. Diplo’s version has the vocals and the beat taking turns in the spotlight. Paper Diamond reverses that focus. He deepens the drops and creates a remix worthy of the Diplo-tastic cover art.
Paper Diamond will begin an eight month residency with Wynn Properties in Las Vegas following his tour. The residency begins on March 26th. He’ll also be making his first appearance on Diplo’s BBC Radio 1 show ‘Diplo & Friends’ on January 26th.
