You probably don’t use Apple Music. You probably don’t listen to Beats 1 Radio, either. The truth is, almost half of users that signed up for the free 3-month trial have since abandoned Apple Music entirely. For EDM fans, Apple Music didn’t offer enough compete with Spotify’s Beatport licensing deal. The tides may be turning however, as an Instagram post from Beats 1 Radio head DJ Zane Lowe suggests Diplo may be joining the service.
What does this mean? It’s anyone’s guess at the moment. Diplo could be coming on as a resident DJ. He could be bringing Diplo & Friends to Beats 1. Maybe even Mad Decent radio. The EDM superstar is a known business mogul and entrepreneur. The partnership could prove valuable for Diplo as a crossover artist. Apple Music receives an influx of the coveted EDM demographic, and Diplo suddenly appears on the handsets of 11 million registered Apple Music users.
We have to admit, some EDM talent on Beats 1 Radio would be a welcome addition for those of us still hoping Apple Music pans out. The announcement is Friday. You can follow Zane Lowe’s Instagram here, and sign up for an Apple Music trial here.
