It’s fair to say that Diplo was one of the most successful DJ/producers to come out of the 2010s. After dating rapper M.I.A. and founding the massive Mad Decent record label, Diplo would go on to help form the iconic group Major Lazer which helped push dancehall music into the mainstream. And this is all before the 2010s even began.
By the end of the last decade, Diplo won multiple Grammys; appeared in several documentaries, TV shows, and movies; produced for some of the biggest names in music, and became an all-around social media titan.
All that being said, it only makes sense that Diplo is best positioned to provide us with a roundup of the best songs of the decade. In a two hour mix for BBC Radio 1, Diplo does just that. Naturally, the majority of the songs on the mix are of the EDM variety with only a few pop and hip-hop songs thrown in.
Of course, we immediately listened to the whole mix, and we have to say, he did a pretty good job at representing some of the biggest anthems to hit the festival scene in the last decade. The mix isn’t without some questionable choices, but overall, it’s a fun mix to reminisce on! Listen to Diplo’s “Best of the Decade” mix below (or on BBC for a limited time) and judge for yourself whether or not he did a good job.
