New Dillon Francis EP proves magic is indeed real (DMNW Review)

Dillon Francis graced the world with new music on Wednesday, October 2nd. This 4-track EP is the first installment in a 2-part series named Magic Is Real.

This feels like Dillon Francis at his best- a great combination of 2019’s musical trends and his 2014/15 signature sound.

You will find lyrical laughs and an assortment of genres on this album. Bawdy, the second track feels like a big moombahton track. Dillon Francis, and his moombahton tracks, have always shined. It is quite exciting to see Dillon Francis making tracks in the same spectrum as 2015’s Get Low.

Dillon Francis takes on his DJ Hanzel persona for the first track. Go Off (Nothin’ 2 It) is a fast-paced house song. When Dillon performs as DJ Hanzel, he goes “Van Deeper,” and this track is certainly deep house. Lyrics like this could only come from Dillon Francis. Listen for a couple laughs.

Bomboclat (Light it Up) comes in at number three because it is a dance floor wrecker! It opens with comfortable reggae lyrics from Bunji Garlin before Dillon Francis 100% puts on his trap mask. This trap anthem was perfectly placed, and is ready for crowds across the country.

The last track is a familiar favorite from 2014 Dillon Francis and his Money Sucks Friends Rule album. He uses the same lyrics, and structure, from the original Not Butter to create a VIP version of the original. Now written in stone as Still Not Butter.

Simply put, Dillon Francis brought Not Butter to Empire State Building heights. This is a monster rework of the original. This one feels a lot like Malaa or Tchami’s bass influenced house style, whereas the original is somewhere in the moombahton/trap category.

There has been so much new music recently. Summer has came to an end. It appears everyone has finished a great deal of music over the bright summer months. Now we are entering full speed ahead into October.

A great deal of artists are currently embarking on bus tours and Halloween shows will happen later this month like Freaknight on October 25. Madeon will be in Vancouver October 30, Seattle on October 31 (Halloween). Lastly G Jones is gearing up for a sold out show in Portland on Halloween.

If you’ve had a chance to listen to Dillon Francis and his new music let us know if it reminded you of his music from 2014/15. What is your favorite show you have scheduled for October? Let  us know on on Facebook or Twitter!
