English drum and bass icons Delta Heavy are virtually live streaming for a 45 East benefit this Friday, June 5th. Portland’s popular dance music hotspot doors have been closed since mid-March, following government orders to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Like so many music venues across our region, 45 East is at risk of shutting down. Permanently.
With no ability to produce an income, they’re still on the hook for fixed operating expenses. But optimistically, like many local venues, new fundraiser support initiatives lie on the horizon.
Longer sets, local support, major headliner: Live from 45 has it all
45 East, and Red Cube Events, announced a special live stream fundraiser, in a format that hearkens memories of more familiar times. Next Friday, June 5th, Delta Heavy closes out the night following favorite local support HAL-V & SpaceCase and ATL. Instead of the now-typical 30-40 minute sets, the event features extended sets and a 90 minute close from Delta Heavy. Tune in here starting at 7 PM PST to catch this bass-heavy evening in support of one of the most iconic dance music venues in Portland.

In the wake of seemingly endless cancellations, 45 East has refunded thousands of tickets. Now more than ever, 45 East relies on its’ loyal community for support. They’ve made it easy to donate during the event, utilizing both PayPal and Venmo on their social pages, and live channels. You can access their donation sites on the Facebook event invite featured above.
Other ways to support independent venues
Unable to financially contribute during the event? No problem! 45 East and Red Cube currently support the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA). If you’re unable to support, or seek additional ways to help, consider emailing your state representatives to encourage widespread pandemic economic relief for affected local venues. Although it may seem intimidating at first glance, NIVA’s site makes it easy by populating an email and recipient address, only requiring your email address. You can find more information on NIVA’s site, or social media pages.
Delta Heavy, no stranger to charitable events
This isn’t Delta Heavy’s first rodeo into philanthropy at 45 East, either. Half of the drum and bass duo broke up an international touring schedule to stop in Portland for a charity show. Called Happy Holibass, guests exchanged two cans of food in exchange for a free Delta Heavy show. Through this event, Red Cube and 45 East brought in enough food to supply 1,122 meals for families through the Oregon Food Bank.
