Deadmau5 is one of the most prominent names in electronic music; from his iconic albums and unique style, developing new artists on mau5trap, to Twitter disagreements. Deadmau5 is definitely a unique artist, not only for his music, but for his persona. Whether you love him or hate him, the one thing we know is that Deadmau5 will always tell it like it is and give his honest opinion.
In one of his usual “Twitter lurkings,” Deadmau5 stumbled upon an aspiring New Jersey artist’s tweet. The young artist, BoMason, is seen in an image with his father making a pact. The agreement states that if BoMason’s song Evolve receives two million plays on SoundCloud, his father will pay for a flight to LA and one year’s worth of rent.
Many that aspire to be in the entertainment industry see LA or California as the place to make it big. Deadmau5 noticed that in Bo, but instead took to Reddit and Twitter with a different response. After reaching out to BoMason, Deadmau5 stumbled upon his SoundCloud link, and discovered the young artist’s raw aptitude.
“… and LO AND BEHOLD… i found natural talent. Of course, all credit goes to him (and his brother) for producing and helping write some of the songs… and while as most of you know… its not, stylistically, my cup of tea…. i can still recognize talent when i hear it. I think he’s got a great voice, and knowledge of how to apply it (without drowning babies in autotune) and amazing chord structures….”
The offer: if BoMason gets 1 million plays on his SoundCloud, then Deadmau5 will fly him out to mau5trap to co-produce an album. Deadmau5 is not one to throw compliments around freely, but is always wanting to help talented, aspiring artists and fans. Deadmau5 describes that they could “make some really interesting stuff” together, and also shared his favorite tracks on Twitter.

People are responding positively to BoMason’s work. Another Reddit user even described his style as similar to Frank Ocean. We had the opportunity to listen to the tracks, and definitely agree with Deadmau5 about the beautifully dissonant chords in Drifting. We love seeing local artists aspire to their goals, and hope for the best for BoMason’s future. What are some of your favorite tracks of BoMason’s?
