Love them or hate them, it seems like any time the sisters of Krewella play on a main stage anywhere tongues are going to be wagging. The biggest talk of their Ultra 2015 was the were they/weren’t they discussion as to whether or not their equipment was completely plugged in. Every festival seems to bring up the debate about pre-recorded sets, and as could be expected, our favorite Twitter troll was ready and waiting for the Yousaf sisters to hit the stage.
The feud started out fairly simply, with Deadmau5, or Joel Zimmerman inquiring as to what kind of equipment the women were using. DJs will sometimes do creative things with their equipment to ensure a quick transition between sets, but Krewella certainly had an interesting set up.
Aw man. Krewellas got them new completely wireless DJMs??? I’m jealous.

Unfortunately, as things often go when Joel is behind a keyboard things escalated quite quickly, Will Ferrell meme not even necessary. To add to the fun, just hours before their Ultra set Jahan and Yasmine sat down with MTV and talked about bullying faced by women, in particular cyberbullying. As is to be expected, quite quickly the Twitter fires grew, with some taking the side of the Mau5 and others choosing to defend the sisters and the way they chose to use their CDJ’s as a mixer.
Thx 4 watchin our stream @deadmau5! before u tweet maybe u should zoom in & see the USBs plugged in2 the CDJs/mixer:) pic.twitter.com/QeGILU6MgJ — KREWELLA (@Krewella) March 29, 2015
The gals put the rumors of their “unplugged” set to rest, noting their alternative setup, at which point it became the typical Deadmau5 Twitter tirade we’ve all become familiar with. According to what we’ve been able to find concerning the mechanics of it all, the Yousafs were running their set via USBs with either Traktor or Serato, not simply working with an unplugged CDJ. We’ll spare you the remainder of the play by play of the Twitter war since the facts speak for themselves, but suffice it to say that they’ll probably steer quite clear of Joel should they wind up at the same festival in the future.
For some reason we won’t be surprised if for their next set Yasmine and Jahan use obnoxiously bright cords in everything just to send the point home. Either that or they’ll find a way to make it look completely cordless. What’s your take on all this? Are you even surprised anymore that Deadmau5 went after Krewella? What’s your take on the equipment conundrum? Let us know of Facebook, Twitter, or in the comments below, and please keep it classy.
