The holidays have always been a season of giving, and thankfully Christmas just came a little earlier with Datisk’s latest EP release. With an EP release earlier this year, Senei will be his 2nd major release of the year. Back in November, we caught word that Datsik would be releasing his Sensei EP towards the end of the year. After what’s felt like ages we finally have some new tunes from Troy to play us well into 2017. Sensei features 7 original bass filled tracks with collaborations from Virtual Riot, Excision & Zach the Lad. A quick listen will immediately remind any long time Datsik fan why they started listening to him in the first place. As well as a great start for anyone just joining the Ninja Squad!
Kicking off EP is the title track Sensei, a classic Datsik sound through and through on this one. We wouldn’t be surprised if this one makes it’s way onto everyones set lists. Coming in next is Nasty, a collaboration with Virtual Riot, who’ll be joining Troy early 2017 for his Ninja Nation tour. The track is an obvious, and quite lethal combination of Virtual Riots signature sound and Datsik’s polished headbanger style. Wreckless is a show of how far bass music really has come in the last several years. A subtle dubstep vibe with massive lyrical flow from LA based rapper AD.
Half way through the EP and we get hit with the bass heavy Just Saiyan, a track that’s clearly made to be played at high volumes. We’d be lying if we said we can’t wait to hear this one inside The Village at Shambhala next year! Fly Low shows Datsik’s softer side while displaying his understanding of bass music and broad range of production ability. As if we didn’t have enough bass already Redemption hits us with the Kelowna, BC duo of Excision and Datsik. Both have clearly grown over the last decade. Redemption is 100% a basshead’s dream with two dubstep masters behind the controls. Closing out the Sesnei EP is a collab with Zach the Kid, Gravity. A seemingly perfect final track the joins bass, melodic rhythms and captivating lyrics.
The Sensei EP is a classic Datsik release that will please any fan, new or old. The new seven tracks show a clear evolution in the Datsik sound, while still staying true to his roots. We’re really looking forward to hearing how these songs all sound live, especially on a PK Sound rig later this March when the Ninja Nation Tour makes it’s way through the PNW. With stops in Boise, Portland, Spokane, Eugene and Vancouver, there’s plenty of opportunities to get your fix.
