Das Energi returned to Salt Lake City on August 18 &19. With headliners Zedd, Knife Party, Diplo, and Adventure Club, 2017 marks the 6th year of Das Energi, and Dance Music Northwest had the chance to experience it first-hand. V2 Presents is the leading promoter in Utah and took Das to the next level this year with better production, lineup and overall experience.
The two-day festival took place at The Great Saltair, about 20 minutes from Salt Lake City. The venue was heaven on Earth with mountains in the backdrop, sandy beach, and calming water. The festival was made up of three different stages: Energi Field (main stage), Synergy Station (indoor stage), Galactic Flats (beach stage).
The Energi Field and Synergy Field stages both had a lot of room to dance and move around. The Galactic Flats is a beach stage so make sure to wear shoes you are not afraid to get dirty. There were great visuals and sound on all the stages with no conflicts.
The indoor stage has a food stand on the bottom floor and a bar for all the 21+ festival goers. The bar leads outdoors overlooking the festival (perks of being 21). There are water stations throughout the venue and cool off areas with the heat reaching almost 100 degrees. Merch and vendors are located both inside and outside, there was a lot to do and see while at the festival.
Doors opened at 5 pm with the show ending at 2 am; the crowd was rolling in and became crowded around 7 pm. There was parking on site for $10 and Uber/Lyft pickup drop off areas available. Entering the festival, the lines were very reasonable; we never had to wait over 20 minutes when we arrived early. The lines for cars to park and leaving the venue was a little rowdy.
With one main entrance and exit, there were traffic jams, something that is hard to avoid at festivals, unless you are fine with leaving early during the closing sets. Overall, very well done and not too much of a headache to navigate.
Day 1
We started off the show at Fransis Derelle followed by JSTJR at the Synergy stage. When the sun started to set, we moved outside to watch Bijou. With the sun setting behind the mountains, it was the perfect moment. When the sun went down, the party really started.
The main stage was packed from 9-2, from Ephwurd to Feed Me to Knife to Zedd. Synergy Station was filled with headbangers for Skism, Getter, and Zomboy. The night was filled with surprise b2b and guests. Protohype closed out the Galactic Flats with a b2b with Feed Me b2b Datsik b2b Knife Party. Zedd played his originals and closed the main stage with fireworks.
Day 2
The headbangers moved outside to the main stage for the second day with performances from Herobust, Slushii, Adventure Club and Diplo. Armnhmr and Said The Sky gave us the vibes during sunset for the second day. Great sounds and even better view.
The Synergy Station inside got intense and dark with jaw dropping performances from Mija and Rezz. And of course, the festival couldn’t end without a beautiful firework show from the OG Diplo.
We are marking Das Energi 2018 in our calendar and can’t wait to make the trip back. Will you be joining us next year? Leave a comment and let us know!
