[divider]DIVERSITY OF GENRES[/divider]
One of the core values and most celebrated aspects of EDM is diversity. This couldn’t be any more evident then when discussing (or avoiding discussing) the seemingly endless number of genres widely considered ‘EDM’. Essentially, if you enjoy sound, there’s a genre for you. There’s uptempo and low-tempo, instrumentals and songs with beautiful lyrics, party anthems and emotional escapes, virtually any aspect a listener of music could specify as particularly enjoyable is featured somewhere within the ridiculously expansive landscape of EDM.
Outside of the more mainstream sounds of what many consider EDM, there is an ever expanding universe of new and diverse content. The celebration of this diversity spurs on the consistent evolution and transformation of sounds and styles within EDM, constantly giving birth to new sub-genres. For example, just by checking out Wikipedia’s listing of genres defined as ‘Electronic Music’ you’ve discovered several new sub-genres of similar styles of music within seconds. This wide range of genres can benefit a wide range of people and lifestyles, as long as the beneficiary puts in the time to find what type of EDM suits them best.
What this diversity also provides is the potential to form a unique connection to certain artists or genres. With the countless hours of EDM tunes available at any moment on the Internet for your listening pleasure, the ability to discover new music from young or budding artists is easier than ever for the average EDM fan. ‘Finding’ artists or genres that your friends or others may not follow or listen to as much also allows for a special connection when listening to or watching them gain popularity.
