You know you’re in Portland when you show up to Cosmic Run 5k in 40 degree weather, while it’s raining, and you see people running around in shorts and tutus with smiles on their faces. To say there was a fantastic vibe from the very beginning would be a huge understatement. People from all age groups and backgrounds came together as one to join in on the colorful 5k journey through the Portland International Speedway, and we all had the best time doing it.
Walking up to the starting line music from the likes of Martin Garrix, Krewella, and Zedd bumped through the speakers getting the crowed ready to take off, and when that rope dropped there was no time wasted. Hundreds of enthusiastic attendees hit the ground running, more than ready to be covered in colorful powdered paint.
We were not disappointed, as there were four stations along the course that held a group of volunteers waiting to throw this colorful powder our way! As the runners reached the finish line and the Cosmic World Main Stage, we were once again greeted with upbeat EDM tunes to keep the energy alive, and when 9:30 rolled around, it was time for the main act of the night.
Prog-house duo Project 46 took the stage and they jumped right in with one of their most well known songs, their collab with Kaskade Last Chance, and the audience was overwhelmed with emotion and happiness. Hands were waving in the air, girls were up on shoulders, and feet continued to move. Looking around it was clear to see that there were many EDM fans at Cosmic Run, but there were also many people who were having their first dance music experience, and it appeared to us that the majority of them were thoroughly enjoying themselves. Not only were people brought together by the love of running, but Cosmic Run also brought about the opportunity for strangers to come together in a new way, through the love of music and dance.
