Yesterday, Coachella announced their lineup to much fanfare, and today tickets went on sale. Tens of thousands of music lovers were waiting on their computers and movie devices to buy tickets, and in just a matter of 20 minutes, they were gone. Yes, you read that correctly. In twenty minutes both weekends of the infamous southern California music festival had completely sold out of both the $375 GA tickets and $899 VIP plus parking tickets. Scalpers are of course already having a field day on the secondary market with some asking for thousands of dollars for a GA ticket.
With a lineup as stacked as this year’s Coachella, it’s no surprise that tickets were a hot commodity, but to sell out in only 20 minutes is a new record for Coachella. Every April, tens of thousands of music fans, both regular citizens and some exciting VIPs, flock to Indio and the surrounding area to see the music and be seen. It’s as much a fashion show as it is a music festival, with many celebrities popping over from LA and beyond to take part in the festival. You never know who you’re going to find, and for every stupid Kardashian you see, you’re equally likely to be thrilled by a possible Danny DeVito or Jeff Goldblum sighting.
Fortunately, for those of us who will be at home, there will be options to partake in the festival. Last year a live stream was available, and we have no doubt the same will take place this year. We will also look forward to the live sets that get published so that we can revisit our favorites. It will be interesting to see if anything can top the joy and wonder that was Galantis’ Seafoxchella set.
