Rumors have been confirmed! Calvin Harris, Jay Z and Will Smith come together with screenplay writer Irvine Welsh to create the very first EDM comedy series set to release with HBO.
According to an official statement regarding the new HBO series:
The pitch for the new series, set in a fictional world of electronic music was developed with the help of Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris. The show has been bought by HBO and is currently in development with the pilot being penned by critically acclaimed “Trainspotting” author Irvine Welsh.
Fun Fact: Irvine Welsh produced a film back in 2011 called Irvine Welsh’s Ecstasy. It was a romantic dark comedy based on a character who smuggled ecstasy in Amsterdam. Prior to this film, he wrote the book Ecstasy: Three Tales Of Chemical Romance, which turned out to be a #1 best-selling piece.
Also set to release (sometime in the next decade, or never) is Diplo’s forthcoming film, which is apparently aiming to snap “Eminem and Christopher Walken at a Manchester rave”, an interesting combination of musicians and actors…
Regardless, both films could make for an interesting 90 minutes and we honestly can’t wait. Can you? Are you looking forward to the forthcoming films of two rockstar EDM artists? Leave your comments below and let us know what you think!
