Duo CAKED UP have again been called out by members of the dance music community. This is nothing new for the trap stars Oscar Wylde and Vegas Banger, who have been in the news quite a bit for things unrelated to releasing quality tunes over the last few months. From their unceremonious rise to the festival circuit, to the growing discontent over their song crediting practices, CAKED UP is getting old and it seems as though people are catching on.
A couple of weeks before the duo embarked on the FreakNight Travelling Circus, Wylde was involved in an altercation with Crizzly at a show in Texas, which led him to releasing the following statement.
I’d like to publicly say that what happened was a heated incident that escalated and violence is not a resolution no matter what I’m pissed that I let myself do that. I love my music so much and I didn’t want my set interrupted for the 10th time in front of 2k people.
CAKED UP then spent the months of September and October touring North America, including several stops in the Northwest, and were slated to perform at the cancelled second day of FreakNight 2014. Shortly thereafter, CAKED UP was called out by G Jones, and others, for copying Jackal’s Chinchilla and releasing it as their own tune. Wylde was quick to cite the new track as a bootleg, crediting Jackal in the process, but needed to be reminded to do so.
More questions surfaced last week when This Song Slaps called out the duo for a lack of originality with their latest remix. CAKED UP released their remix of Rae Sremmurd’s No Type, which TSS pointed out sounded awfully similar to LOUDPVCK and gLAdiator’s collab Tony, featuring Nipsey Hussle.

A sample pack of big room trap sounds, which was released prior to the CAKED UP’s remix of No Type and after Tony, has been cited as the potential source for CAKED UP’s ‘inspiration’, rather than the original tune. Regardless, the lack of originality is evident, and it seems to be a trend. As one of the breakout acts of 2014, it will be interesting to see what CAKED UP has in store for 2015.
