The apocalypse is here, and it comes in the form of cute, virtual creatures. Since launching in America on July 6th, Pokémon Go is proceeding to take the world by storm. The free-to-play, augmented reality mobile game is being downloaded by millions, with that number expecting to climb as it launches in other populous countries. Go has many features, including the ability to turn off the in-game soundtrack and replacing it with tunes of your own. That has us thinking: if we here at Dance Music NW were to build a Pokémon Go playlist, what songs would go on it? What songs can make us feel like the very best? Like no one ever was? This is where you come in. We need YOUR help in making this DMNW Poké playlist a reality!
The first song we’ve started out with is a no-brainer: the official Pokemon theme (Gotta Catch ‘Em All). It’s a classic, and will get any Pokémon trainer fired up! The song has seen a massive spike in plays across the internet following Go’s launch. Last week, Spotify announced that plays of the official anthem has jumped 362 percent globally on its streaming service, while overall plays of Pokémon themed music have more than tripled.
Spotify users have combined to create more than 197,000 Pokémon playlist, with 53,000 of them simply titled ‘Pikachu.’ The streaming music service also reports the top Pokémon songs that are being streamed, in order of popularity, are: Pokémon Theme (as mentioned), Pokérap, Pokémon Johto, Go Pokémon Go and I Want To Be A Hero. We don’t recall what half of these other tracks are, but what the hell- onto our playlist you go!
