After touring like an absolute animal on his Animal House Tour and most recent Blackout Tour, Nick Weiller (you may know him better as Bro Safari) is back in the studio. Per his SoundCloud, the trap extraordinaire stated he is looking to come up with ” a comprehensive body of work, like an EP or potentially even an album” during his time off the road. For those of us that have listened to Bro Safari and UFO!’s buckwild Animal album, this could not be better news. Bro Safari has been quite elusive with his releases since the Animal LP (by the way have you listened to the Animal Remix EP yet?), but is back with a vengeance with his latest track Bender. Prior to producing his upcoming project, Bro completed several unfinished songs on his hard drive, the first of which is Bender.
With dance music, it can be easy to pigeonhole an artist into a particular genre. Bro Safari is the industry standard when it comes to trap music. However, his production far extends the bounds of trap. Starting in his early days with moombahton tracks like Da Worm, transitioning into gnarly dubstep of Mr. Nice Guy and most recently glitching out on Animal, Nick has proved that he can produce pretty much anything. Let us also not forget his drum and bass days with Evol Intent, which is why Bro Safari is such a beast with drum patterns.
Bender features Bro Safari’s signature 808’s, horns, and gun cock before the bass hits that leave you yearning to harness your inner gangster. Bender builds with some very ominous sounding chords that give the song a deeper and darker vibe. The minute-long outro featuring these chords is spooky yet brilliant. Bro Safari is masterful in chopping up vocal samples and this skill is showcased in Bender. He layers the chopped up vocals and creates a pleasant contrast by pitching one sample way up and the other sample way down. This has become such an integral part of Bro Safari’s sound for a good reason. It sounds incredibly dope! If you’ve enjoyed Bro Safari’s Halloween anthem Spooked of two years ago you will really enjoy Bender.
