Yet they don’t perceive Vegas a barrier of opportunity. Mikey admitted that there isn’t really a chance for “local” acts. It’s always going to be: “Do you want to see Calvin Harris tonight? Or do you wanna see Tiesto?” We couldn’t pinpoint how irked they were by these circumstances… after all, they were signed on Ultra Records.
Pedi: “I think it’s unhealthy to overcritize. When you do that, you start to narrow your potential as an artist. I think what’s happening right now is we have a massive explosion…yet there’s a lot of cool stuff happening in the mainstream world. What’s happening is that it’s created a lot of innovative artists – people have started to look within and bring out their creative influences.”
Mikey: “We took a break from [Ultra’s] leasing terms for a while, but we’re going to revisit some originals with them. Everyone who is succeeding is giving a lot of tracks away for free, and we want to do that.”
Mikey: “We just want to make music.”
Now that’s a cause we can get behind. If there’s anything that the dance music community needs right now it’s eclectic artists that are willing to take risks — we’re thrilled to see musicians like Mikey and Pedi teaming up to continuously break the mold. Besides, who else is going to carve out niche genres like “Festival Tarp”? If you haven’t run into one of Black Boots’s melodic originals or bouncy remixes, make sure to check out their Soundcloud.
