Bingo Players, formerly made up of Paul Baumer and Maarten Hoogstraten, have released their first track of 2014. With the recent passing of Paul, Knock You Out is an exceptionally meaningful track, being one of the last that Paul and Maarten worked on together. In Maarten’s first press release after Paul’s passing, he stated Bingo Players will always be plural. With that said, you can expect to hear much more from Bingo Players as Maarten plans to keep Paul’s memory alive through the group they started together.
With the release of Knock You Out, it’s safe to say it’s an emotional time for Bingo Players’ fans, the electronic dance music community, and especially Maarten. The moving and emotionally raw lyrics of Knock You Out can’t help but make us wonder if there could be a connection between Paul’s battle with cancer and this track.
You’ve become weak. The twisted tongue speaks, all the fears you hide, the fear inside. | My fight is won, who needs a gun. Boom, boom, knock you out. You knocked me down, who’s laughing now?
Maarten stated Paul stayed strong throughout his battle with cancer. Knock You Out tells an optimistic and uplifting tale of Paul’s hard-fought battle up until his tragic passing. Take a listen, tell us what you think, and continue to keep Bingo Players in your thoughts.
