Billboard has long been a go-to source for tracking the most popular songs and albums on a weekly basis. Now, the online site has something new to add. Earlier this week, Billboard announced their newest platform — a new “digital channel encompassing innovative coverage of worldwide dance/electronic music and culture.” The site will feature the latest in lifestyle, music technology, concert and festival news. They also have plans to create industry partnerships between brands and dance companies.
The site is yet another reflection of the growing popularity and importance of the electronic dance music genre. Billboard Dance plans to go all out with a guest mix series, spotlights on rising dance music artists, and exclusive music and video premieres. In their new video series called “Beyond the Beats,” viewers will get the inside scoop as they go behind the booth with popular DJs. The first episode stars Paul Oakenfold.
Billboard is one of the top music sources in the country. While the future of the new dance platform is yet to be determined, the implications are massive. Will we see the demise of smaller blogs and websites that don’t have the money or means to support the same creative content? Or will this too flop like so many other projects that jump on the EDM bandwagon?
You can check it out on Billboard Dance’s Facebook and Twitter pages or visit the website at http://www.billboard.com/dance.
