Bored, with no plans on a Friday night? There’s a new mobile application that hopes to change that for all the live music junkies. Launched earlier this week, BeatMaps is a free app that allows users to find local dance music events near them through GPS location. It promises that only the best events are posted, based on lineups, production companies, and venues. It also offers a feature that allows users to get GPS direction to their desired show. BeatMaps is currently just available on Android, but an iPhone version is in development and will be released soon.
Compared to the popular app Bandsintown, BeatMaps directly targets the EDM fanbase. It’s a promising endeavor, but the developers still have quite a few kinks to work out. For users in bigger cities with many venue options nearby, such as Seattle and Portland, we can see how this app would be extremely helpful in finding shows. But for users who live in small towns? Well, we’re not sure how the app would work in that case. Nevertheless, if you’re a fan of music-based apps, BeatMaps is definitely worth checking out.
BeatMaps is available free for download on Google Play.
