Bass Coast Music Festival drops first wave lineup, featuring CloZee, Yu Su and More

Bass Coast Festival has unveiled the first wave of its 2023 lineup and we couldn’t be more excited to return!

Starting off: Bass Coast co-founder The Librarian who released an EP in 2022 called miss u. Also coming back to Bass Coast will be Vancouver’s funkiest duo Nick Middleton and Duncan Smith, better known as The Funk Hunters.

Joining them will be San Francisco’s Justin Martin, who launched his What to Do label in 2020 alongside the release of his first single Needs. Yu Su, who set up the record label “bié” in 2019, has had her music described by Pitchfork as “eimbient dub, synth pop, and left-field house”. Los Angeles’ Bianca Oblivion, kicked off 2023 with a set at an event called “Warp Mode” at LA’s Boiler Room.

Additionally, this year’s lineup features a variety of global talent! Renowned French DJ CloZee is at the top of the list, as well as Bristol’s Batu, who made it into two of Mixmag’s year end award lists in 2016. The first of the aforementioned awards was for his “Timedance” label. The second was for the man himself, snagging 12th in the “Top Breakthrough DJs” category.

Elkka will join them too, known as the founder of the Femme Culture label where she released her HeForShe compilation in partnership with UN Women. Funds from HeForShe x femme culture Vol. 4 will be donated to UN Women. The funds will be split equally between UN Women’s Safe Spaces Now programme and their Ukranian relief efforts.

Hip-house music master Galcher Lustwerk whose “100% Galcher” mix from 2013 was re-released in a remastered 2xLP release on his own Lustwerk label. And last, but certainly not least, Dirtybird label artist Nala whose music has been described as a mix of house, indie dance, electro and breaks. She launched her own label, Mi Domina, in July 0f 2022.

We can’t wait to see what else this festival has cooked up in terms of the lineup! Bass Coast Festival takes place July 7 – July 10, 2023 just outside of Merritt, BC. Tickets are still available but we’re not expecting that’ll be the case for long with a lineup this amazing.

Which artist on the First Wave lineup are you most excited to see? Let us know on in the comments and on our socials. Hope to see you on the dance floor at Bass Coast Festival!
