The smooth and sultry voice of Banks is back again, and this time, she’s even more ferocious than ever before. The latest, entitled Brain, is a collaborated effort of both Banks and experimental producer, Shlohmo. Banks’ signature deep, low melodies still seem to float above the earthly, echoed space of Shlohmo’s instrumental production, creating an indie tribal vibe to this track.
Brain speaks of her frustration with a boy (we assume) refusing to become an individual by stepping away from the “cool” crowd. She calls out his lack of courage and held-back originality in order to act “hard” to please those around him. Progressively, the track builds underneath, as Banks’ vocals get stronger and louder than we’ve ever heard her before. Brain shows off new depths of Banks’ passion and vocal talent, and digs into even more previously-unearthed internal struggles she writes about. Much like her own personal diary, Banks’ music lays it all out on the table, and Brain is just another piece of her uniqueness to add to the complexity of her artistry.
You can catch Banks during both weekends of Coachella 2014. More details here.
