What do you get when Armin Van Buuren calls up Thomas Vink for a Hystereo remix? THNK Recordings label manager and Dutch producer Thomas Vink thrust this kind of dreamy-subconscious realm upon us, and we like it. We’ve been intrigued with the 3 EP’s he’s released this year, offering up a definitive direction with his new label. Steadily splashing onto the scene with Arkanoid, Beneath, and Arrange, he’s developed a recognizable trademark style of minimal, techy textures and hypnotic atmospheres. Yet, despite him mainly being a techno producer, his remarkably fluid productions are permeating the membrane of the Armada brigade. And considering he’s enjoying world class support from Armin Van Buuren, we suspect he’s firmly on the track to success.
Upon request of Armin Van Buuren this past September, Thomas Vink, Heatbeat, and KhoMha were hand-picked to re-worked Armin’s Hystereo in their own reflective styles. Heatbeat takes Hystereo on an impressive progressive joyride, which we also recommend checking out for a good time. On the other hand, KhoMha’s remix misses the mark entirely, an aimless whim attempting at euphoric proportions. We would have liked less cookie-cutter. Thomas Vink however, threw Hystereo into a wormhole with his explorative, moody remix that premiered on ASOT 682. Taking the tempo down and whipping in his own experimental palette, this is the kind of song you want to hear on an after-hours escapade. Respectfully authentic to his own creative instincts, Vink continues to show promising potential with his refined taste for subtlety. Can’t get enough? The Hystereo Remixes will be fully released via Armind on October 13th!
