He’s been named the world’s #1 DJ five times by DJ Magazine. His schedule is a killer series of headliner appearances in front of huge crowds. (This weekend he’ll play at for lucky EDC attendees!) He has played for the King and Queen of the Netherlands. But Armin van Buuren’s notoriety is still growing. In fact, it is now cemented -in wax at least. Visitors to Madame Tussauds in Amsterdam can now stand side by side with Armin, after the DJ was inducted into the wax sculpture hall of fame.
In the video below, you can get a sense of the intricate process of building the Armin clone. Armin was asked to pose twice for the sculpture, enthusiastically working with the sculptors. In total more than 500 different measurements had to be taken and and at least as many photographs. During the second session in London, particular attention was paid to his facial features and expressions. When all was said and done, four months and many hours of work by a four-person team had created a masterpiece.
“This is an immense honor,” says van Buuren. “How many Dutch [people] can say so?” The Dutch hero is now proudly displayed at the popular tourist destination in the so-called ‘A-list’ room where he ‘plays’ for international stars like Justin Timberlake, Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, and Gwyneth Paltrow. For their part, Madame Tussauds is thrilled with the addition to their collection, because Armin was one of their top five most-requested new subjects.
