Anthony Bourdain, famous chef and television personality, host of the hit show Parts Unknown, took a few minutes during a recent episode to ponder on the EDM scene in Las Vegas.
Bourdain’s opinion was evident in his question to local magician Penn Jillette, whom he was interviewing, regarding their mutual confusion about the changes in Sin City: “Are we just old? Or are we non-douchey?”
Bourdain goes on to make his disdain more clear. It’s not the first time or the last time we’ve heard anything that he has to say (and honestly, it’s ok to be anti-bro). It comes at a time when many people are talking about EDM because it’s, well, everywhere.
Come ye lords and princelings of douchedom. Hear my clarion call. Anointeth thyself with gel and heavenly body spray. Maketh the sign of the devil horns with thine hands. Let there be high fiving and the hugging of many bros, for this is the kingdom and the power.
Whatever you think of the growth in popularity of EDM, there is no doubt that it has changed the face of the Las Vegas strip. Sin City is expecting over 40 million visitors for the first time in its history this year; each day of Electric Daisy Carnival draws 115,000 attendees, with 2014 expected to be the biggest year yet. Vegas EDM clubs are very profitable businesses and attract increasing numbers of young party-goers. Let’s face it, business is business, and Las Vegas knows how to draw a crowd.
Bourdain, like everyone else, has a right to his opinion. Check out the video:
