Alpine isn’t an artist known in all corners of the community, but if the French producer’s gigantic new track Gaïa is any indicator, it won’t be long before he is. As part of his similarly named EP, the selection is huge in every sense of the word. From it’s rolling kicks, to the drops that conjure images of standing at the top of a snowy mountain overlooking the world, it’s dubstep perfection in its purest form.
It begins with a child’s voice, kicking off the auditory quest as it informs us that “this is how the legend of Alpine began.” Gale force winds blow through the background, the strings start to build, and already you feel like you’re in the midst of a Odyssean epic, ready to travel the world and battle all manner of monsters. The drop kicks you off a cliff, giving you no time to breath before you realize you’re on your feet head-banging away. We can say without any hint of exaggeration that the sheer scale of this (and the rest of the EP) is pretty much guaranteed to blow you away.
In a world of music saturated by big room releases that all sound the same, Alpine’s Gaïa is a breath of bass-infused fresh air. The talented Frenchman’s Facebook page describes his influences as Hans Zimmer and Knife Party, a more than apt description of his entire library of epic-scale dubstep.
