EDM’s First All-Female Festival: Together Fest

The day has come: The first all-female EDM experience is set to debut October 8 at Together Fest. This revolutionary festival is brought to the Bay Area by Ms. Jackson, who is a featured DJ at the festival, her friend and event director Audrey Joseph, and the San Francisco Armory.

The San Francisco Armory has recently been approved for an entertainment permit and can hold up to 4,000 people. Together Fest will feature two stages with a unique lineup. Dani Deahl, Brazzabelle, Little Boots, UNiiQU3, TT The Artist, Club Aerobics, X Micahtron, Blimea Brixton, BITCH PLZ VON KISS, X AMBER VALENTINE and CHELSEA STARR will be joining Ms. Jackson on the stage. Music will run from 9 pm to 2 am along with games, a silent disco, chill area, and food carts.

This is a first for festivals and we are taking notice. In a recent TEDx talk with DJ and Producer Dani Deahl, she shared some interesting numbers. Ninety-one percent of popular EDM is produced by men, which means only NINE PERCENT is produced by women. When it comes to festivals, about 5-10% of a typical lineup is women. Together Fest is changing these numbers, and the EDM scene, with 100% of the lineup being women.

A recent article from The Huffington Post discussed the lack of women in festival lineups and the EDM scene:

“EDM is notorious for being one of music’s largest boy’s club, with women making up just 11 percent of artists at electronic music festivals in 2015. And in 2014, just 18 percent of EDM labels included women on their rosters.”

It’s true, as the numbers show, women DJs are not as present in the EDM world. But festivals like Together Fest and DJs such as Dani Deahl are promoting women to participate in the industry, and we are supporting the movement.

Find more information about the festival on the Together Fest Website. If you have a chance to be a part of this experience, we highly encourage it!
