It may still be cold up north, but as old man winter holds on with one final grasp of his icy fingers, funk fans above the 49th parallel can take a chilly breath and relax. Why? Because dance floors all around BC & Alberta are about to be doused in gasoline, and guess who’s carrying the match? In just over one week, the legendary sounds of A. Skillz will be returning to Western Canada, and DMNW guarantees no better way to keep yourself warm until that season we call “non – winter” is over.
You know him for such remixes as California Soul, ABC, and Come Together, but for over a decade Adam Mills, better known to the dance world as A. Skillz, has been destroying dance floors with his funky fresh brand of beats. His productions speak volumes (pun intended) to the amount of time and effort he puts into his work, and if you’ve seen him live, then you know his skills on the decks are nothing to scoff at either.
Combining the likes of breaks, funk, hip hop, and big beat, A. Skillz has managed to stay relevant in the dance world for close to 15 years – something almost unheard of by today’s standards. In 2003, yes that 2003, A. Skillz teamed up with Krafty Kuts to release Tricka Technology, an influential album to many in the scene that has stood the test of time and is still played in heavy rotation by no specific writer at DMNW to this day.
A constant staple on the festival circuit, the funk filled people of Canada have all but adopted the British DJ & producer as one of their own, as we at DMNW have lost count how many times A. Skillz has appeared at festivals like Shambhala. And for two weeks starting March 19th in Victoria, the honorary Canuck will be taking over BC and Alberta with his unique bag o’ beats.
So if you somehow haven’t had the chance to see him live, then you’ll want to go ahead and get your tickets today. Because an A. Skillz show is constantly oozing with some of the biggest bangers of old and new, and always peppered with a fresh helping of unreleased material.
And if you just so happen to live in the Vancouver area do not, we repeat DO NOT, miss his Vancouver show, as he teams up with the genre defying Skratch Bastid, Sammy Senior, and one half of the Funk Hunters for what can only be described as “a good time”. Click here for info on when A. Skillz is coming to a city near you and, as always, if you see DMNW on the dance floor, come give us a high five! We always like new friends.
Important things happen in Pacific Northwest nightlife, and DMNW will send you alerts!
