When word broke of the iconic Woodstock festival coming together for its’ 50th anniversary celebration at the original grounds, people were obviously over the moon. With such names like Daft Punk and Skrillex being tossed around, in amidst legendary players like Elton John and The Who, the buzz has become palpable.
However, the one question people seem to have is, who is the masterminds behind all of this? Is it the original founders of the iconic 1969 festival, which created the blueprint for the music festival culture we all enjoy today? Or is it a new brand of people paving their own way?
Well, it seems that we have a bit of clarification from the festival co-founder himself, Michael Lang. “While the original site in Bethel remains close to our hearts, it no longer has the capacity to hold a real Woodstock Festival,” Lang said in an official statement. “I’m delighted that Bethel Woods is doing events in the coming year to celebrate what we brought to life in 1969 and I encourage people to visit the Museum and concert venue.”
It appears that Live Nation has partnered with INVNT to produce the event happening at Bethel Woods. We’re all eager to see what Lang and the rest of his team have planned for their event as well; rumored to be getting underway within the next couple of weeks. Either way, it’s going to be a celebration for the ages.
It’s undeniable that the original Woodstock event, in 1969, was the beginning of the entire lifestyle that so many of us have sought after. PLUR was directly coded from the hippy movement that culminated with this event, and this, much like many other festivals after it, is our legacy. It’s one that we are very excited to see what comes of it.
