In a revealing Instagram post, British producer Gareth Emery spoke frankly about his thoughts on ghost production, particularly in its relation to songs on Armada’s catalog. He admitted not only to some of his tracks having input from other artists, but to have polished the production on other artist’s tracks as well. A direct quote from the November 7th Instagram post:
“But I’ve done some tracks, mostly remixes, where I was running out of time and [asked] someone else to do the heavy lifting to finish my demos. Alex Sonata worked on my remix of Lost Frequencies. Craig Connelly on my remix of Ferry Corsten … On the flip side, there are about 10 tracks in the Armada / Garuda catalog that I ghost produced for others back in the day”
In the same Instagram post, he also offered his thought that if he would “fucking love to find a permanent engineer to finish up my tracks” and that such a position would help him release more music. Ghost production is often a terribly touchy matter in the industry, but Emery seems refreshingly self-aware on the subject. Back in 2016 he and frequent collaborator Ashley Wallbridge famously lampooned the notion in their comedy piece CVNT5 to hilarious effect. Emery has also recently disclosed the completion of a new album. A frequent flyer to the Pacific Northwest, of particular note, is his recent appearance in Vancouver BC with his famous Laserface setup.
