Undeniably, Calvin Harris and Sam Smith’s track Promises is a total bop. For those unsure of what that means, just know that you’d probably enjoy the song! The music video is no less sensational; the entire production features loud and proud expressions of queer art. Drag queens, voguing, glam and glitter all make it a sight to behold.
All of those watching it and growing curious about the performers are in luck. Calvin Harris has uploaded a seventeen minute documentary starring the cast of their video. Made by the secretive Ammolite Inc. and directed by Emil Nava, “Promises” is a visual celebration of free expression.
“In July 2018, we set out to make a music video about voguing for Calvin Harris and Sam Smith’s ‘Promises'”, reads the opening message. “An homage to nightlife culture; voguers, drag artists, designers, models and more travelled to LA from various parts of the country to perform together and celebrate what they share… Individuality & the art of vogue.”
Indeed, the film is a stunning display of queer art and nightlife. It’s look at life outside of societal norms is inspiring, and as a result is moving and powerful. It serves as a powerful reminder of how nightlife can allow people to be free because they can be celebrated. Go ahead, watch it below!
