Insomniac made a huge move last week by acquiring half of the Dutch promoter ALDA. These two companies were already powerhouses in the industry by themselves, but their combination means further expansion around the globe for both companies.
Insomniac is, of course, well known for their stateside festivals, primarily EDC and Nocturnal Wonderland. The US-based company has already successfully expanded abroad with the EDC format, with EDC Japan, EDC China, and EDC Mexico. Most recently, Insomniac announced plans for PLAY Festival, yet another innovative event with the potential to place the company at the forefront of festival production once more.
ALDA is in no way swamped by Insomniac’s reputation – they’re best known for their flagship festival AMF, but they’re also the minds behind A State of Trance, as well as the New Horizons festival in Germany.
Despite the large portion of the company that Insomniac has acquired, the two companies won’t completely combine. ALDA will still operate as its own entity under the direction of its founders Allan Hardenberg and David Lewis. The shift appears to simply guarantee that these two giants will continue their international growth together – and potentially secure their places as the most innovative production companies in the world.
