For the first time in decades, Moog has released a new polyphonic synthesizer, the Moog One. With enough features to make any dedicated gear-head happy, the Moog One has already been hailed as the company’s “magnum opus” by Sweetwater Sound. Here’s what you need to know before you run out to get yours.
The tri-timbral Moog One comes in two versions, an 8- or 16-voice, which can articulate all voices simultaneously. Its 48 oscillators, used in unison mode, let you easily manipulate the voices as you like. You’ll have the luxury of three analog voltage-controlled oscillators alongside a host of other flexible features giving you complete control over the synth’s three timbres. The interface features a 61-note keyboard with velocity and aftertouch, as well as 73 knobs and 144 buttons providing a truly hands-on sound-shaping experience.
You’ll also be able to save your presets, take snapshots of individual sections of your presets, and can access even more controls through the screen’s extended functionality. With all of these features, we’d say the Moog One was well worth the wait.
