Biographies and autobiographies make up some of the most influential book reads a fan may find. Memoirs and biographies reveal in words and photos the lives of great musicians like Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Patti Smith, and Marilyn Manson. These iconic figures who live on through their works and in pages suddenly gained new peers: the DJ duo Daft Punk.
Now, the electronic idols go beyond their music in an unmasked book titledThe Real Daft Punk, written by Toronto author Harris Rosen. The book includes exclusive 1997 and 2001 interviews, more than 80 original behind the scenes photos and their complete discography. Between the pages is also “the practices and principles of” Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo A.K.A Daft Punk.

According to his biography, Rosen is “the author of N.W.A: The Aftermath, The Real Eminem: Broke City Trash Rapper, and other Behind The Music Tales books.” It seems to be the perfect chance for music enthusiasts everywhere to dive deep into the legend of Daft Punk. This read is available on Amazon in hardcover, paperback, and on Kindle!
This isn’t the first time EDM artists have been in biographies and documentaries
The life and times of EDM stars is not exactly new media. Calvin Harris: The $100 Million DJ by Douglas Wight has been out since October 2015. The biography touches on many facets of the EDM superstar including his journey to international stardom. Even more telling is the stories of his hit making for Kylie Minogue, Rihanna, Cheryl Cole, and Dizzee Rascal. This legendary tale goes even further to discuss Harris’ alleged Midas touch.
Avicii may be the next artist in line for a memoir. His death this year has already sparked numerous online biographies. The artist’s 2017 documentary Avicci: True Stories documents his many successes and struggles. Detailing his ups and downs, health scares, and 30 minutes from his final set, it’s an enlightening look at young stardom. The film was directed, produced and written by Levan Tsikurishvili.

It seems like the lives of EDM artists may rival the legendary status of rock stars. Due to the genres popularity and internet open coverage, music and artists are accessible like never before. For this reason, modern media is full of artists constantly connecting to their fans through photos and videos. Could an artist’s social media accounts be their own digital biographies?
In this case, there is something to be said for the recording power of social media. In contrast to traditional print memoirs, artists can broadcast visuals of their life and times to millions in an instant. Although that doesn’t stop the book market from publishing more because hundreds are “coming soon” on Amazon. Bookworms can rest easy knowing new releases are in the works every day.
