Few festivals reach a legendary standing the same way Tomorrowland has. The Belgian mega-festival has pushed the boundaries of how a music festival should be. It’s hosted OG stars of EDM like Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Dada Life and Steve Aoki since it’s inception and wow’d the world with its elaborate stage setups. This year poses to be no different as they gear up for their 10th theme: The Story of Planaxis!
The festival’s creative director Christophe Van den Branden explained in a printing of Tomorrowland Today that fans can expect this year to be completely different. He says The Story of Planaxis invites the People of Tomorrow to “a world underwater, where they can discover how beautiful the ocean is and that we should cherish it.”
“We provide a totally different look compared to the previous years,” he says. “We did not rely on anything and created something completely new from our offices in Antwerp.”
The term Planaxis refers to a genus of sea snails, providing a hint to the stage structure of this year’s event. The recently dropped festival trailer also teases viewers with a beautiful Atlantian imagery. It pairs perfectly with it’s history of eye-catching and fantastical themes that throughout the years dazzled dancers around the world.
Over the years, Tomorrowland’s themes have unfolded to become beautiful and imaginative, often taking on fairy tale elements. Their very first themes Masker and Zon soon became beautiful tales like The Tree of Life. The festival is renowned for it’s grand and adventurous themes that explore human myths and wonder, and this year should be no different.
