Sleeveless Records has been on our radar for a hot minute, that much is clear. Founded by the infamous Stylust (formerly Stylust Beats), the label boasts releases from names such as JLeon, Holly, and of course our local heroes and fave bass peddlers, Pigeon Hole. So, the name needs no introduction, and we’re betting this next name might not either.
A founding member of Portland’s We Got This Crew, Chase Manhattan’s career is on a steady uphill climb. With a decade’s worth of experience, Chase Manhattan, one of Portland’s most revered DJs, has royally perfected his craft. Drawing from his love for hip-hop and rap, Chase combines these sounds with elements of trap, bass, grime, and experimental electronica to create his own original sound. With multiple recent releases on Saturate Records, as well as features on Sleeveless & Shadowtrix Records, plus another EP on the way this fall, he continues to release a steady stream of music.
With this brand new EP, Chase Manhattan takes us through a sonic landscape of bass music. He’s a newer name to the scene, but his style proves he brought his A game, and shows no signs of stopping.
The opening track Zeus, a collaboration with Chrome Wolves, kicks the EP off with a low-end banger. Starting off slow and warped, it moves into a uniquely disjointed and eclectic masterpiece, complete with all the bells and whistles. The tempo picks up a bit with The Sound, moving into the half time portion of the EP. With the low to the floor synths and rolling bassline, it’s a tune that makes you want to go right down to the floor, and then keep going lower. Mark our words this is gonna be a summer banger.
Closing out the EP is the haunting Watchout. This is hands down our favourite track from the album, breaking down into an almost classic dubstep fusion with modern trap music, yet adding a more refined edge to it. It even breaks down into some cheeky drum n bass before it ends! This whole EP is fire from start to finish. Check it out below and let us know what you think!
This is an act to watch in the coming months, 100%, and ya heard it here first.
