Swedish House Mafia reunion at Ultra this weekend? The rumors and conspiracy theories just won’t go away. But, we must ask, what if it doesn’t happen? And If Swedish House Mafia isn’t a special guest headliner, who will be?! Here are some names worth thinking about:
Avicii
After a year-long hiatus, Avicii made his return to the EDM scene with his six-track Avīci (01) EP last fall. Could a return to the stage be up next? What better stage is there than Ultra on its 20th anniversary? Avicii is no stranger to UMF Miami, having headlined from 2013 to 2016. With so much history between festival and artist, combined with Avicii’s recent music work, it’s surprising that his name isn’t mentioned more!
Martin Garrix
It’s surprising that the current DJ Mag number one isn’t playing at a festival of this magnitude. Or will he? Although he has publically stated that he won’t be at Ultra, he is slated to be in Miami on Thursday to attend the red carpet world premiere of his documentary What We Started. With a show in Vegas on Saturday, and Houston on Sunday, according to his website, Friday is open! Staying an extra day to close out Ultra’s day 1 festivities can’t be out of the question.
Jack Ü
While he isn’t scheduled to perform at Ultra, Diplo will be spinning at multiple parties across Miami this week. Skrillex, currently has a free calendar, according to his website. Jack U performed in 2014 and 2015; bringing the band back together would blow the (imaginary) roof off of Bayfront Park. Add in the special guests they’d certainly bring on stage? Sign us up!
Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike
The Belgian bigroom duo, and former DJ Mag #1, Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike were never rumored to be special guest headliners- until last week. Like Mike fueled speculation after uploading a picture of himself chilling by the water, with the caption “expect the unexpected.” You know what else happens to be located by the water, and has the same caption in its advertisements? Yep, you guessed it.
Deadmau5
Joel and Ultra go way back. Despite rants aimed toward the festival, he has performed six times since making his UMF debut nearly ten years ago- most recently in 2016. Like Martin Garrix, DeadMau5 recently stated he won’t play at Ultra, but considering he’s the biggest troll in EDM, who knows what to believe!
Daft Punk
Hey, we can dream, can’t we?
Ultra Music Festival takes place this weekend, Friday to Sunday. Can’t make it to Miami for the big event? Live streaming is back for your couch raving needs, with more details to be available in the very near future.
