A 6-month wait has finally come to a climactic end featuring 2 nights of arguably one of the best shows of the year. Seattle’s own Odesza packed out Vancouvers PNE Forum for back-2-back sold out nights and certainly an event to remember. Since 2012, Harrison and Clayton have been making waves across the globe in the dance music community. From their humble beginnings at Western Washington University to now sold out arenas, we couldn’t be more proud of their achievements over the last 5 years.
Back in June they announced their new album and accompanying tour and we just couldn’t wait for either. A Moment Apart officially debuted September 8th and gave us time to familiarize ourselves with it before the Vancouver date. The album features a host of collaborations and showcases how the duo has grown since their start. The minute-long intro into the title track immediately felt as if we were about to embark on a journey, and by the time November rolled around we’d gotten to known A Moment Apart start to finish rather well. There’s certainly been a lot put into the new album and we expected nothing less of the new tour.
Opening the night, and certainly not to be overshadowed, was the young and multitalented Kasbo. Carl Garsbo of Sweden showcased his full musical ability with a selection of instruments in a full live set. The mixture of originals and remixes was a great way to get the night started. Following up the young Swede and continuing the live instrument performances was Sofi Tucker. The duo has been gaining popularity since their song Best Friend was featured in the latest iPhone X commercial, and the pair has proven success with releasing fun and original music since 2014. The New York band easily kept us and everyone else on their feet and in the mood to dance, we couldn’t help but think we’ll be seeing them much more come next year’s festival season.
After a short intermission, the lights dimmed and we were met with (as predicted) the intro from A Moment Apart, set to a Interstellar-esque visual backdrop. Featuring their full horn section and the Odesza drumline it was clear they’ve seriously overhauled their live show. To add even more magic, the sheer amount of lighting and stage production all came together for one seriously incredible show. The night carried on for a full 90 minutes, showcasing Odesza’s growing catalog of hit tracks. From start to finish the entire thing felt so incredibly precise we couldn’t believe it finished as quickly as it began.
The sky is the limit for Harrison and Clayton. We wish them all the best and congratulate them on another successful year. As we’re beginning to wind down 2017, we have to say that it’s certainly been one of our busiest and best; 2018 is just around the corner and it’s shaping up to be another great year of music, dancing and memories.
