What is it about those kiwis and their proclivity for all things FUNK! When New Zealand native K+Lab moved to the PNW, it was clear that we were gaining a reckoning talent! Already a massive presence in the world of electronic music, having this funky man import himself to Vancouver, BC really cemented his status within the west coast scene, and it was a good one.
From his massive undertakings this summer, playing everywhere from the once in a lifetime Oregon Eclipse Gathering to rocking the Fractal Forest at Shambhala Music Festival, his electric performances at Tall Tree Music Festival (one even sans pants for a jump on stage with the Lazy Syrup Orchestra on Sunday night), and his latest banger of a set at Rifflandia Festival.
He’s certainly made his presence known, and each gig he gets better and more in tune with the crowd. Not to mention his lightning fast keytar skills. With a string of solid, dance floor crushing releases under his belt, the future seems bright for this vivacious young performer!
But, not to let those accomplishments coast him through the fall, the man himself recently received a nominated for a NZ Music Award for Electronic Artist of the Year for his album The Worldly’s. If you haven’t had a chance to check out this record, please do yourself a favour and pick it up. There’s a damn reason he’s nominated for this particular album, as it’s hands down one of the best releases of the year, electronic or not, and we’re sure this is gonna garner him the top award.
Also nominated in this category are fellow west coast favourites Truth and Chaos in the CBD, and these are nominations we can definitely appreciate as well!
Congratulations to this massive talent, and we’re super ecstatic to see what you have in store for us for 2018! What has been your fave K+Lab moment?! Let us know in those comments!
Important things happen in Pacific Northwest nightlife, and DMNW will send you alerts!
